Mission: We will be relentless in our pursuit of improvements in healthcare and the health of the population. We will achieve this by enhancing and harnessing the skills, knowledge and leadership of physicians in setting challenging standards and encouraging positive change based on sound evidence. Best Workplace Factors
Managers have 121's with staff noting improvements and development areas whilst at the same time encouraging area of continuous improvement. They coach and mentor staff as required and where this is not feasible matters are referred to HR for further support. Managers support staff in managing workloads and responsibilities. Where a major change is noted managers often make a case for the role to be reviewed by HR. The outcome of which can be a re-grade of the post or an extra responsibility allowance, other policies are used as appropriate. Managers encourage staff to be part of organisation wide projects; this is sometimes achieved through the EF. All strategic and operational information is cascaded and feedback sought from staff at departmental meetings. Staff are encouraged to present at staff meetings attended by the entire staff and also contribute to the ebulletin sent out monthly. Individual staff also take responsibility for updating their departments intranet pages.
The RCP promulgates a range of strategies to support the physical, mental and social well-being of employees. A team of occupational health professionals provides on-site confidential and ethical services which are freely accessible to all employees upon request throughout the time of their employment with the RCP. Confidential medical advice is provided, health monitoring and individual counselling are available focussing on the interaction between health and work. Health information is offered to all employees who are encouraged to use preventative strategies to maintain good health. Advice on healthy eating is given supported by “healthy choices” available in the RCP’s free canteen. Regular exercise, facilitated by corporate local gym membership is encouraged and employees are supported in avoiding smoking and overuse of alcohol. Occupational health professionals work closely with Human Resources and management, to provide advice about appropriate adjustments to facilitate a safe return to work after illness or injury. Employees and management are given information about client stress management and ways to increase their resilience in managing the many pressures which impinge upon employees.
Giving Something Back
The organisation strives to give something back to the local and wider community. They consider themselves a good neighbour and each year they take part in Open House London which is the biggest celebration of London’s architecture with nearly 8oo buildings, walks and events showcased. The day is always well-attended attracting hundreds of visitors. In addition they host an annual Christmas lecture for local schools and they also try and involve the local community in their exhibitions and events wherever possible, including arranging special school and local community group visits.
