From the extremely small beginnings of two men and a dog making beer in a garage in northeast Scotland, Brewdog has become in just 14 years an industry giant known as much for its anarchic approach as the strength of its imaginatively-labelled drinks.
After winning their first home brew competition, the products of founders James Watt and Martin Dickie soon migrated to supermarket shelves and the company is now a multi-national empire spanning breweries, around 90 bars worldwide and even beer hotels.
Ascribing their success largely to the people they have employed, the senior management team likes to reward them. The company is committed to giving away 20% of their profits each year to thank employees for their continued effort. 10% is shared equally among everyone with a further 10% given to charity. A salary cap ensures that no new employee who starts can earn more than seven times the lowest-paid employee.
Already B Corp certified, it takes its social responsibilities seriously, with one example the creation of the Brewdog Forest, a 2000-acre native broadleaf forest in the Highlands as part of a carbon negative initiative. Team members are involved through being allocated a tree which they can trace on forest tracking software. Surplus bread is collected from local businesses to be reused to brew a sustainable lager using renewable energy.

Technical skills such as brewing and maintenance are also included.
This organisation has a strong social conscience
During the pandemic, Brewdog made and donated 500,000 bottles of hand sanitiser free of charge to the NHS and other care settings. It also canned water and made it available to vaccination centres. Staff were sent regular crates of beer to keep up morale.
