We pride ourselves as a great employer with 97% of our people recommending the firm as a good place to work. Despite a turbulent year we paid an all staff bonus of around £1,000 for every employee depending on length of service. Since lockdown we have provided a range of wellbeing support, including virtual social activities and regular catch-ups. A recent pulse survey found 71% of people described their wellbeing as ‘excellent’, very good’ or ‘good’. We have placed clients at the heart of our new 2025 strategy and are looking to help them through the current challenges through our Building Resilience campaign. By speaking to 90+ of our clients in a ground-breaking piece of research we found out what they really want from their law firm. Innovation continues to run through everything we do and we received a “standout” mention in the FT Innovative Lawyers Awards for developing our free Life Questions app that allows NHS workers to put their affairs in order quickly and efficiently in case they became sick during the pandemic. The firm was founded in 1880 by Henry Mills and Edmund Reeve to work on the new tram system under development in Norwich. In 1986 it merged with Cambridge firm Francis & Co. This introduced the firm to the technology market in Cambridge and the Cambridge colleges, some of the wealthiest landowners in the country. We expanded into Birmingham in 1998 and in 2000s we added offices in London, Leeds and Manchester.

Quote from the top...
Ensuring that the firm is a great place to work has been fundamental to our collaborative culture and our success for many years. Being a leader in people experience forms a key part of our firm’s 2025 strategy. The wellbeing of our staff has been of even more importance since the Covid-19 pandemic hit. We have run many wellbeing sessions covering a wide variety of topics, set up a kids club to support employees home schooling and organised firm wide charity challenges aimed at encouraging staff to take time away from their desks. A key measure of our employee engagement is our own bi-annual all staff survey which we have been running for the past 20 years. It was great to see the results of our 2021 staff survey which showed strong and improving levels of staff engagement from an already high base. Ninety-seven per cent of our people would recommend us as a great place to work, an impressive score which has been maintained from the previous survey in 2019 despite the challenges of the pandemic. There is always more we can improve on and we take all staff feedback incredibly seriously which helps us to identify areas of focus and shape our strategy as we strive to be a leader in people experience and a firm where our people thrive and others want to join.
