‘Creating brighter futures' is learning provider LifeSkills Solutions Limited's mission. This ethos extends to its treatment of staff, who are all given health and wellbeing resilience training alongside 24 hour access to a personal counselling service. Two additional days of holiday were also added last year to allow team members to attend important family events.

Started in Bethnal Green in 2002, the business provides vocational courses to young adults aged between 16 and 19. One of its former 20,000 students is now manager at one of its centres.

The business has training centres in Basildon, Lowestoft and Rotherham, as well as a sister centre in Leeds. Whilst lessons are typically delivered in person, the Covid-19 pandemic moved all teaching online last year.

A pay rise across the board in August gave a huge morale boost, and a new gift card scheme was LifeSkills's way of saying thank you. Bonuses are also given to employee of the month and year, as well as for outstanding contributions.

Virtual weekly quizzes kept spirits high while Managing Director Nick Bailey and Owner/Director Spencer Fearn started a quarterly newsletter and regular videos to keep everyone up to date.

The company has charitable intentions too. It supported local food banks throughout the pandemic and gives everybody two days off a year to volunteer with a local charity.
