Every new product begins with a need. So, when John Davies's chocolate Labrador, Charlie, had problems with his joints and no available product worked, he and friend John Howie set about creating something better and so its YuMove joint supplement for dogs was born.
The pair set up Lintbells in 2006 and since then the company has expanded into nutritional supplements for cats and horses. Its products formulated to treat joints, digestive systems, teeth, coats and skin, mostly manufactured in the UK, are sold in more than 15 countries. Based near Hitchin, Hertfordshire, Lintbells also has a team in the US.
Employees have worked throughout the pandemic and taking care of their wellbeing has been a priority for Lintbells. The senior leadership team started doing daily 30 minute meetings with the workforce to check-in and ensure everyone had the support they needed. Lintbells also introduced Zoom quizzes, cross team social events and chief executive, John Howie, hosted Desert Island Discs interviewing the team on the eight tracks that mean the most in their lives. The firm also sent out Good News Friday, a newsletter sharing good news and funny stories from the week.
Lintbells runs a comprehensive induction programme to ensure staff have the skills they need and offers internal progression and development. While there wasn't as much formal training as normal employees were encouraged to develop by getting involved in new projects or leading on an internal project for the first time.

2020 was a growth year for Lintbells and to recognise the challenges staff faced it launched an accelerator holiday bonus target challenge which saw the whole team receive £1,000 in December. The firm also gave everyone a performance-related bonus for achieving company and personal objectives.
I am happy with the balance between my work and home life
Lintbells introduced Wellbeing Wednesday to encourage employees to prioritise their mental health and energy levels, increased lunch breaks and ran an Active for Life charity challenge. This involved “travelling” to New Zealand using any non-motorised method to encourage staff to continue to exercise in the winter months.
This organisation has a strong social conscience
Lintbells launched the #RescueYourRescue initiative to raise funds for local rescue centres around the country affected during the pandemic and a #ThankYouDogs campaign to support StreetVets which provides veterinary help to homeless people's dogs. People were encouraged to share their stories on social media and donate to the charity.
