Technology recruitment specialist, Oscar, harnessed the power of digital communication to bring staff together virtually during the pandemic using Zoom, Houseparty and Microsoft Teams for social events to provide a sense of normality. These ranged from coffee breaks and team scrums to a magic show, cocktail making class, stand-up with comedian, Justin Moorhouse, cook-along sessions and themed quizzes.

Oscar, which recruits for the technology, IT, and digital sectors is headquartered in Manchester, with additional locations in London, Amsterdam, Houston and Austin. The privately owned organisation, founded in 2008, prides itself on being relationship focussed, value driven and innovative.

Recognition is a key component of Oscar's culture to celebrate the hard work and the achievements of its team. Recruitment is known for its use of commission structure but Oscar's has zero threshold and no cap and the firm offers ad-hoc prizes. In December for every candidate placed consultants received a ticket for a draw with the winner bagging vouchers worth £1,000. There are usually two incentive trips abroad annually. During the pandemic Oscar introduced other rewards including home-delivery restaurant kits, alcohol and fast food deliveries and a voucher for a day in a professional kitchen.

While working from home Oscar has held Weekly Washups every Friday afternoon, where the business finishes early and has a catch-up to round off the week to celebrate major wins, successes and acknowledge the hard work of employees.

Last year more than half the staff received pay increases and everyone was sent care packages.

Oscar introduced a flexible working policy, gave staff 30 minutes extra at lunch for exercise, introduced weekly Zoom yoga sessions and its psychologist ran resilience and mindful sessions. Oscar's team in London took on the challenge of collectively running the distance to and from the Manchester head office over four weeks, raising more than £1,000 for Cancer Research UK. Oscar also donated to food poverty charity, FareShare, providing 4,000 meals for vulnerable individuals and families across the UK.

What’s a Rich Text element?

The rich text element allows you to create and format headings, paragraphs, blockquotes, images, and video all in one place instead of having to add and format them individually. Just double-click and easily create content.

Static and dynamic content editing

A rich text element can be used with static or dynamic content. For static content, just drop it into any page and begin editing. For dynamic content, add a rich text field to any collection and then connect a rich text element to that field in the settings panel. Voila!

How to customize formatting for each rich text

Headings, paragraphs, blockquotes, figures, images, and figure captions can all be styled after a class is added to the rich text element using the "When inside of" nested selector system.
