“Our founders experienced first-hand the struggle of finding that first graduate job and in response to this Shopper Media Group (SMG) makes sure that it backs people who are early in their careers, the company states on its website. “As a result, we are a career accelerator and our management teams are made up almost exclusively of graduates who have grown and discovered their potential in the company,” adds SMG.

The group consists of three award-winning agencies – Capture, Threefold and Lobster – and specialises in commerce marketing activation, connecting retailers and brands with shoppers at the point of purchase both online and in-store.

Clients include The Co-op Group, Deliveroo, The Very Group, and McCain Foods. The business was acquired in April 2021 by Next Fifteen Communications Group plc and CEO Sam Knights will continue in his role. London-based SMG was founded in 2008 by Joel Hopwood and Matt Lee working out of a spare bedroom. Just as it helps brands and retailers to transformative results by joining forces to reach shoppers, employees are “supported by brilliant people, dedicated managers and a truly inspiring and committed leadership team”.

CEO Knights and the leadership team live and breathe the company's values of stay honest, stay hungry, stay foolish and have fun. To promote engagement and trust, SMG transparently shares a picture of where the company is as a business and the decisions that are being made. Managers have remained visible and approachable throughout the past pandemic year.

This job is good for my own personal growth

Learning is at the heart of the agency and it invests significantly into developing its people. A brand new eight-week scheme for junior employees includes “live” virtual sessions each week focusing on a specific business area, and the SMG University programme offers comprehensive support throughout people's careers, from onboarding to directorship level.

My Team

94% of staff agreed

My team is fun to work with

In April 2021 alone, seven new starters joined and were welcomed on the company website. A dedicated in-house team is tasked with making the agency a great place to work and a weekly email called What the Heck that shares updates from birthdays to anniversaries to feelgood stories about what people have been getting up to.

Fair Deal

53% of staff agreed

I am paid fairly for the work I do relative to people in similar positions in similar organisations

As it has grown, SMG has provided a performance-related bonus of 20% – linked to base salary – to everyone, regardless of whether they are in a revenue-driven role or not. This ensures cohesion so that the company achieves its targets, and ensures that all staff are rewarded and appreciated for the hard work they put in.

What’s a Rich Text element?

The rich text element allows you to create and format headings, paragraphs, blockquotes, images, and video all in one place instead of having to add and format them individually. Just double-click and easily create content.

Static and dynamic content editing

A rich text element can be used with static or dynamic content. For static content, just drop it into any page and begin editing. For dynamic content, add a rich text field to any collection and then connect a rich text element to that field in the settings panel. Voila!

How to customize formatting for each rich text

Headings, paragraphs, blockquotes, figures, images, and figure captions can all be styled after a class is added to the rich text element using the "When inside of" nested selector system.
