About Gearset

At Gearset, their mission has always been to set the standard in Salesforce DevOps by building a deep understanding of their users, then solving their problems with a team of smart, pragmatic and focused people.

As a team founded by software engineers with a track record of working very closely with their users, they noticed early on that the incumbent companies in the market had a very different model to the one they are used to. Gearset wanted to take a different approach - to talk directly to the hundreds of thousands of Salesforce developers and administrators across the globe who had DevOps problems to solve every day.

Gearset have recognised the challenge of managing teams during the pandemic. Weekly meetings provide managers with an opportunity to update the company on progress and celebrate achievements, which has helped maintain motivation. Gearset decided to continue their management training programme virtually during lockdown, promoting their ongoing development. As part of this programme, they included extra coaching sessions on giving feedback and provided additional 1:1 coaching support between sessions for managers. They have also encouraged a peer-group network between managers, with their own Slack channel and informal coffee sessions, so they can support each other and learn from one another.

During the pandemic, Gearset aimed to help where they could. One of their employees got involved with the Frontline Face Shield Initiative, which provides face shields to the Air Ambulance, local care homes, hospitals, maternity wards, and any other vital services in need of PPE. Gearset donated £1,500 to help this great cause, allowing a group of 3Dprinting enthusiasts around Cambridge to produce 800 more shields. Their CEO also dropped off fruit and biscuits for NHS workers at the local hospital, Addenbrookes.

Gearset recognise that their employees are in a variety of situations and may all feel differently about the return to the office. Their approach has always been to speak to the team and base decisions about who returns to the office on employees own needs and preferences - not their functions within the company. They felt it was important that no one was pressured to return to the office and that they would continue with many of the team based at home.
