The Leadership and Management Development Programme (L&MDP) supports managers to develop their skills and knowledge. This programme provides first line and aspiring middle managers and more experienced managers with the necessary skills to progress within the organisation. This programme has provided the skills and knowledge for managers to move into senior management roles when opportunities arise.
The Council employs a Healthy Lifestyle Officer who is responsible for promoting wellbeing of customers and staff. The officer has initiated a Workplace Health Champions scheme ensuring that there are trained staff throughout the organisation to support teams and offer advice and guidance. The Healthy Lifestyle Officer in conjunction with the Sports Team deliver a Body MOT programme. Employees benefit from blood pressure, BMI, lung function, and weight checks with advice on living a healthy lifestyle. Other initiatives include the promotion of cycle to work days, staff football and badminton sessions, pedometer challenges and a regular feature in the monthly staff magazine. The Healthy Lifestyles project has been so successful that the team has been invited to submit a film of their work for the Active Derbyshire Workplace Awards. There is a regular feature in Better magazine.
To re-open the town centre following a programme of extensive improvements, a Pancake Race was held to raise funds for Sport Relief and Red Nose Day. Over 30 teams from the Council, outsourced services, partnership organisations and local businesses competed for the winners frying pan trophy. Teams forged new friendships, strengthened existing ones, honed their competitive rivalry and had great fun on their way to the podium. It was a great day for all the competitors and spectators.
