Douglas Macmillan Hospice ('Dougie Mac' as they are more commonly known today) provide all hospice services free of charge to over 3,000 patients with life-limiting illnesses each year in North Staffordshire also giving supportive care to their families and carers.
The dedicated staff and volunteers make a huge difference to a patient's journey; they are central to the care provided. Striving to go that extra mile to provide a warm, friendly and peaceful environment both at the hospice and in a family's home.
The organisation is built on four core principles to which every employee follows daily. Their four core principles are: Compassion; Accountability; Respect; and Excellence. By following these principles, the organisation believes it can reach it's ambition to 'be admired as a Centre of Excellence for palliative and end of life care'.
Senior management within the Hospice understand the importance of rewarding employees for the vital work that they do each day. Their Greatix system allows any employee to nominate a colleague for going above and beyond the requirements of the role. It's a simple form completed electronically that is then sent to the executive team, a response is always provided to both the individual submitting the nomination and the individual it is about. These feed into nominations to the 'Dougie Awards' where individuals are recognised for excellence.
