Jellyfish Pictures started as a two-man band back in 2001 and since then they have grown into one of the most respected visual effects and animation studios in the world. They now employ over 250 artists and are as dedicated as ever to creating stunning moving pictures. Whether they are working on feature films like Star Wars: The Last Jedi, or animated series like Dennis and Gnasher: Unleashed, Jellyfish Pictures offers an unrivalled service that blends creativity, craft and capacity.

Over the last 15 years they have built a brilliant creative team, an expert production service and a pioneering technical pipeline. They have won a string of EMMY, BAFTA and VES awards for their work.

Jellyfish Pictures uses Microsoft Teams as a way of communicating and engaging with employees. They have a virtual company forum every week, where the whole company gets together and the Head of Operations and Managing Director update everyone about new starters, new initiatives, projects, and any updates. At the end of the meeting, they finish with a birthday song for those who have a birthday. The birthday song is written and sang by a talented member of the team who plays the ukulele! They also use personnel system to do ‘shout outs’ for any important information.

At Jellyfish Pictures they offer Mental health Q&A sessions, as well as activities to promote wellbeing such as appreciation days. They have ‘coffee and chat’ sessions monthly, communicate regularly to promote positive wellbeing and have an Employee Assistance Programme (EAP) to support those struggling with mental health issues. The organisation has also raised money as a company for the Mind charity through promoting sporting activity.

The organisation asked employees to complete a staff survey during the pandemic to identify needs and requirements, which were analysed, and reasonable suggestions implemented. They have kept the studio open for employees concerned about their mental health, or for those who haven’t got the right set up at home. Jellyfish Pictures have assigned buddies to new people so that they have someone to speak to in the absence of face-to-face contact.
