About Kent Union

Kent Union provide services to the students at the University of Kent. They provide students with the opportunity to try out new experiences, have fun, and make new friends and be part of a community.

Working for Kent Union is characterised by a fun and friendly environment, flexible working, great training and development and good personal development opportunities. They are a highly successful organisation that has doubled in size over the last decade alone.

Kent Union's workforce consists of student staff, career staff, and volunteers; the Union encourage student staff to progress through the organisation to become career staff upon graduation. As a result of this, a number of the management team at Kent Union are former student staff.

Recognition is important at Kent Union, and bonuses are given to all staff members when financial performance is strong. Staff even receive impromptu gifts, awards and social events to reward exceptional performance, or hard work.

The Union also have a recognition award scheme called 'KUDOS' (Kent Union delivering on service), whereby work colleagues are invited to nominate staff members for recognising the amazing jobs that they do, and how they are demonstrating Kent Union behaviours on a day-to-day basis. Each staff member nominated receives £10 and personal thanks from the manager. The monthly winners will automatically be entered into the GEM (going the extra mile) award, and winners will receive a £50 gift.

Kent Union have allocated budget for department away days, which allows each departments to take their team out of the office, focusing on targets for the coming few years, opportunities to gather new ideas, whilst allowing the team to bond and build rapport.

When career staff pass their probationary period, they receive a personal message from the CEO and a gift from their manager. Kent Union recognise length of service and reward staff who have worked for Kent Union for 10 years with a a payment worth £100, increasing by £20 every further five years' to a maximum of £200.
