Leeds Building Society is the UK's fifth-largest building society. They have a fine reputation for customer service and a record of high performance for savers.
The society was formally established in 1875 and named Leeds and Holbeck (Permanent) Building Society. By the end of the first year, 450 accounts had been opened and £16,000 distributed in mortgages. The first head office was located at the Mechanics Institute in Holbeck between 1875 and 1886.
Since then, the Society has grown to more than 796,000 members with assets of £18.5bn (2017). It employs over 1300 colleagues and operates from Head Office sites in Leeds, Newcastle and 55 branches across the UK. It’s still proudly a mutual organisation, owned by their members.
Peter Hill was appointed Chief Executive Officer in August 2011.
