LondonEnergy provides sustainable energy, recycling and resource management. Their vision is to see no waste from their sites sent to landfill.
LondonEnergy operates from several sites across North London to provide a safe and secure alternative to landfill disposal. They also operate Reuse and Recycling Centres for household materials.
Their regulated facilities are integral to London’s resource economy; recovering energy from waste enough to power more than 80,000 London homes, and in doing so, diverting more than 698,000 tonnes of waste away from landfill each year, saving approx. 300,000 tonnes of CO2e annually.
“Achieving the Best Companies accreditation sees us reach an important milestone in our ‘Great Place to Work’ strategy, well ahead of target. It is also the culmination of five years of unstinting efforts by the team. It has been a hard year for everyone. As key workers, our employees have worked tirelessly to continue to provide a first-class service for the residents of North London. It’s really encouraging to see that our team feels valued and recognise that we care about our employee engagement, despite the challenges presented by the pandemic.” - Peter Sharpe, Managing Director LondonEnergy
LondonEnergy’s leadership team engaged with employees during the pandemic by implementing weekly virtual updates with the Managing Directors and regular virtual team coffee meetings. Their people team developed ‘toolbox talks’ to reassure employees that their jobs were safe and explain the company’s working from home policy.
During the pandemic, the organisation’s managers were provided with a resilience coaching programme and safety ‘toolbox talks.’ They also benefited from a monthly manager meeting, which was in place before the pandemic, but has proven useful to share experience in a difficult time.
LondonEnergy has organised several wellbeing initiatives, including webinars on topics such as mental health awareness, stay healthy on shift, coping with change, meditation and sleep patterns. They have also promoted the availability of their 24/7 counselling and advice line to all employees and implemented regular ‘toolbox talks’ and videos to encourage their health and safety culture.
