About Manchester City Council

Manchester City Council is the local government authority for Manchester, a city and metropolitan borough in Greater Manchester, England. The Council is composed of 96 councillors, three for each of the 32 electoral wards of Manchester, while employing over 7,000 people.

The 'Our Manchester Strategy' sets out the Council's ambitions for the shape of the City by 2025; Manchester faces many challenges but is an ambitious, exciting and vibrant City. Significant programmes to grow the city include: job creation, more homes, a skilled labour market and improved connectivity and infrastructure.

Employee engagement is at the heart of delivering the 'Our Manchester Strategy' and a range of engagement systems, events and internal communications focus on strengthening employee engagement. 'About you' is the Council's performance management framework which provide regular opportunities for strength based conversations where employees can discuss any issues related to work life.

The Council also ensure that employee wellbeing is at the forefront of day to day operations. Their Employee Assistance Programme has been in operation since May 2017, which is a free 24/7 confidential helpline for employees and their dependants offering advice on a range of issues from emotional distress, to debt and legal support. The EAP is accessible to employees via a free telephone line and an web portal.
