About Skills for Care

Skills for Care are an independent charity that works as a delivery partner for the Department of Health and supports related services. They help to create a well-led, skilled and valued adult social care workforce in the UK.

The organisation offers practical support to employers of adult social care workers and helps them to recruit, develop, lead and retain staff. They deliver measurable outcomes that have a positive impact on society and ensures value for money for the taxpayer.

Skills for Care value and nurture their workers, investing in them so that they choose to stay with the charity. The workforce has access to a mental health first aider, a mental wellbeing workshop and mindfulness webinars.

Teams are encouraged to undertake community work together and staff are able to take an additional two volunteering days per year. On average, employees undertake 5-10 charitable activity days every year.

A leadership framework is being implemented to provide managers with a benchmark to measure their capability and create development plans in response. There is also a dedicated HR business partner who works with all managers to informally coach and support them.

With the growing popularity of mobile working, Skills for Care places a strong emphasis on team building activities that enable colleagues to integrate inside and outside the usual working environment. Two team development days take place each year where staff undertake activities that support the local community. An all-staff conference will also be held in 2018 to bring employees together.
