About St Martins

St Martins is a homeless charity with an aim to maximise independent living and prevent homelessness in the community by offering housing, support and care to the most vulnerable.

St Martins started in the early 1970's. The service grew and developed quickly and soon became a night shelter mainly staffed by volunteers. In 1990 they opened their first residential establishment which is now known as Highwater House and houses some of the most vulnerable and traumatised people in Norfolk.

Over the years the organisation has recognised that people who are rough sleeping need more than a bed. If someone is rough sleeping this is the strongest possible indicator that something is seriously wrong for that person and that they need specialist support and St Martins provide that support.

St Martins also help to prevent homelessness through their community with learning and development initiatives.

The people who work at St Martins have a great passion for their work and a commitment to social justice. They believe that no one should be sleeping on the streets and they are all committed to reducing the number of rough sleepers on the streets to single figures that can be counted on one hand. This shared vision means everyone is pulling in the same direction.

The Trustees and CEO are very committed to ensuring that team members are looked after; they know that without a great team they are unable to achieve their vision. St Martins goes the extra mile for the people they support and also team members.
