About The Institute of the Motor Industry

The Institute of the Motor Industry (IMI) is the only automotive professional body in the world. They assess and register motor industry professionals across more than 60 countries. The IMI delivers more than 250 qualifications worldwide and aims to set, uphold and promote professional standards.

Employees are encouraged to fulfil corporate values wherever possible and a staff recognition and appreciation scheme rewards those who demonstrate this. Colleagues can nominate their fellow workers and one winner is picked per month to receive a voucher and a thank you card. As a special thank you for the company’s successes in 2016/17, all staff were given an extra day’s holiday.

Teams are encouraged to work together across the business on cross-functional projects, such as business development and web development. A monthly communications meeting keeps the workforce updated on company issues but with a fun side; one meeting fell on a dress-down day and followed a cowboy theme!

My Manager
My Manager
In 2018, for the first time, three people completed an ILM Level 5 in Leadership and Management. Managers are also assessed against specific criteria, such as building morale, being inclusive, and ensuring a healthy, safe and regulatory/legally compliant environment.
Thanks to links with BEN, the automotive charity, staff get access to regular health checks. Staff can also take advantage of allowances for inoculations, optical and dental benefits, physiotherapy and alternative therapies. Procedures are in place to tackle stress early.

The institute recycles paper, cardboard, glass, plastic and metal cans. No general waste goes to landfill. PCs have low idle power usage and monitors go to power-save automatically. All staff can take electronic payslips. In the centenary year, 2020, they’re aiming to raise £100k for charity.
