About Tommies Childcare

Opened in 1998, Tommies Childcare provides early years education for children aged 0-5 years across 8 sites based across Coventry, Warwickshire and Derby.

In 2015, with a change in their management team, Tommies decided to take the company in a new direction. A direction that placed employees at the heart of the business.

Through investment and time spent developing, mentoring and supporting employees, they believe that the childcare being offered will be at a higher standard.

New recruits joining Tommies Childcare join a group of passionate, committed and supportive employees who all have the a desire to work towards the company vision. You will find it hard to work with a group of more passionate and welcoming individuals anywhere else.

Whilst Tommies have various initiatives that aim to support employee engagement on an individual level, one of their most effective initiatives is that of their quarterly 'listening lunches'. These are designed to gain open and honest feedback about how employees feel within their roles and across the workplace. They ask that these are attended by employees who are not in management roles, mainly as this group of individuals represent the largest percentage of the organisation.

What is it like to work for Tommies Childcare

Senior management within Tommies Childcare are not only very visible to employees but they aim to be approachable, enabling employees to see them as working alongside them, rather than as a separate entity.
My Manager
My Manager
Tommies Childcare launched succession planning programmes, including becoming the next nursery manager, becoming the next deputy manager and moving into management. As an organisation they have identified the importance of growing their own, especially in management roles. These programmes aim to support those individuals who may be looking to progress within Tommies Childcare, however have not yet acquired the skills or knowledge to fulfil these roles.
Personal Growth
Personal Growth
Tommies pride themselves on ongoing development and encourage all employees to see their professional development as something ongoing rather than a training event that they attend on a one off occasion. All employees have a reflective training portfolio whereby they are encouraged to evaluate the effectiveness of any professional development opportunities they have had access to, along with the impact that this has had on their practice.
