About Young Devon

Young Devon is the largest young people’s charity in the South West. Their mission is to make Devon a better place for all young people. A place where they are respected; a place where they can get the help they need; a place where their voices are heard; a place where they have a safe place to call home; a place where they can thrive.

Each year they work with over 2,000 young people, building quality relationships to help them thrive. They started over 70 years ago as a support organisation for local youth clubs, and now they also provide accommodation, mental health, skills and participation in activities.

They have always been about building good relationships with young people and working together on improving the odds in their favour. This focus on building good quality relationships is a crucial focus for them.

What is it like to work for Young Devon

Leadership
Leadership
Senior managers at Young Devon regularly take time to reflect on practice and delivery to ensure that their leadership and their organisation's work holds true to their standards and strategic aims. Senior managers take part in Q&A at staff days and lead regional meetings to ensure they are accessible to not only their own teams but also colleagues from other departments/teams. Senior managers will be piloting 360 style appraisals to enable staff feedback on their performance.

Their annual staff day is the biggest event of the year where they are able to invite all staff volunteers and host families to come together, understand the direction the organisation is moving in and celebrate good practice. They often use this time to share stories of good practice to celebrate and reflect on practice.

Recent improvements to their public brand and changes to how they present the charity on various media channels has had a positive effect on staff engagement as many have said they now feel proud of not just the work they do but the public image of the organisation as well.
