About Academia

Academia is a fast-growing group of technology companies. They partner with world-class vendors to provide elite technology solutions across a range of markets including the private, public and pro media sectors.

The organisation has four core principles which all employees adhere to each and every day; Teamwork, Integrity, Innovation and Ambition.

Academia have many incentives to reward employees for their efforts, such as prizes and internal competitions, as well as an uncapped commission scheme for sales staff. This allows them to drive their own earning potential. Similarly for non-sales staff, they offer either KPIs (which are paid quarterly) or an annual bonus in addition to the many incentives and base salaries.

The organisation recently introduced and trained their first employee mental health first aider. They run sessions on topics such as identifying and managing stress and one to understand what mental health is. The organisation also likes to offer onsite head massages several times throughout the year, as a surprise for teams / staff as a way to reduce stress levels.

Employees are encouraged to arrange days to support and raise money for various initiatives including the 'Macmillan Coffee and Cake Day', dressing like wildlife for WWF, regular cake days (pay per slice) and also internal raffles. In addition, they donate tech to various charities and/or schools where possible. Employees are encouraged to suggest charities that they would like to assist and how they would like to do so.

What is it like to work for Academia

Leadership
Leadership
Academia have four core values: Teamwork, Integrity, Innovation and Ambition. The Senior Management team drive these values weekly in the Monday Morning Meeting, and often get feedback from the team on examples of each from the previous week.
Personal Growth
Personal Growth
Academia have an internal Leadership Academy. They believe that there is a fundamental difference between leadership and management; someone can be a leader in their area of expertise without managing a team. With this in mind, employees apply for and are interviewed and then selected to attend the 6 month internal programme hosted by both internal and external facilitators, in addition to internal mentors.
My Team
My Team
Their internal Communication Policy was created to drive effective communication amongst the whole team. One of the ways they interact is through a Monday Morning Meeting every Monday at 8:45am for the full team. Those not in the office dial in via a link. This is followed by individual weekly team meetings; Senior Management meetings as well as individual 1:1 catch ups with staff and their direct manager.
