About Accent Housing

Accent Housing own almost 22,000 houses across the North, East and South of the country, with plans to build many more. Their houses are home to over 35,000 customers. They exist to improve lives, providing people with high quality homes, affordably. Whatever their housing need, whether family, single, older or more vulnerable, their customers come first.

The organisation recently held an 'Accent Learning Day', where all employees from the support functions visited their regional offices and went out with front-line employees. This helped the support functions better understand it's customers and the perspective of their customer facing employees. This significantly reduced barriers and helped to improve understanding between departments.

The organisation has an employee-led 'Health and Wellbeing' group which focuses on challenges for a period of 6 weeks. Challenges can range from anything like providing free fruit to facilitating massages on site. They also have a wellbeing calendar which focuses on important topics such as mental health, to raise awareness but also aids to support those which may be impacted by this.

Accent Housing seek to reward employees for their efforts, they encourage peer to peer recognition on it's social media platform and award one-off bonuses where individuals have exceeded expectations.

Accent Housing recently restructured half of the business so that they were better placed to deliver the new service offer. As part of the consultation process they invited all affected employees to an event where they were able to ask questions, challenge the proposals and even put forward alternative suggestions.

Accent Housing started 'Shape the journey' where employees can submit proposals for making a difference. Examples of proposals that have been implemented include: a customer retention initiative, an employability initiative, and an Accent van tour to engage with customers.
