About Access Community Trust

Access Community Trust has been supporting vulnerable individuals and communities for nearly 50 years. Initially set up to provide homeless accommodation, in response to the decline in the fishing industry and its supply chain networks, they now design and provide services that provide a real opportunity for individuals to become independent.

Employees at the organisation live by four core principles; Honesty, Excellence, Ambition, Respect.

Their values are abbreviated to 'HEAR' with the strapline 'we HEAR you.' This represents their active approach to engaging all employees in all aspects of the business.

Senior managers discuss these principles at the fortnightly planning and development meeting. The team review their performance and that of their teams against the organisational values. Values are reviewed annually by the whole organisation.

Seeking to enhance the wellbeing of employees, the organisation offers to pay 50% of a gym membership for any employee who is willing to pay the other half. They also offer free health checks for employees over the age of 40. The most effective tool is the offer of flexible working hours. They are able to redesign working rotas to accommodate working parents which ensures that all employees are not disadvantaged or end up working excessive hours.
