The performance development framework at Acclaim Housing Group provides the mechanism through which managers identify learning and development requirements, to enable employees to achieve tasks. All managers attend training to understand and implement the process. The process is not intended to be bureaucratic and the importance of dialogue is stressed to managers, as well as providing tools and techniques for reflection and giving constructive feedback.

Acclaim Housing Group state that due to the dispersed nature of their workforce, often social events are combined with work events. Last year during the Olympics, a number of sport themed events were held, one example being a Family Fun Day in Harborough and Lutterworth. Members of the team took part in traditional sports day activities such as family tug of war, football and sack races. Colleagues really enjoyed spending time together and as this event was combined with a customer event, they valued the opportunity to meet and talk with customers. The organisation’s customer services team, who often are at the end of the phone but don’t meet customers face to face, really found the experience to be valuable.

The Group is committed to enabling colleagues to support local communities, they have a specific corporate objective to build stronger neighbourhoods and have in place neighbourhood enhancement schemes. A specific promise the Group has made to customers is community pride and they will work with their customers and partners to engender pride in local communities. The Group recently helped to improve one of the largest housing estates, which is the 15th most deprived neighbourhood in the country, the company worked in partnership with other agencies and partners. In particular, a local landscaping company who did not hesitate to provide a team to tidy gardens and remove waste. 12 tonnes of rubbish were removed in just one day. An initiative in a local village saw team members cleaning up areas of footpaths and community garden space. The Group’s reward package includes the option of each employee taking one day off per year to volunteer to support a group or activities of their choice in our local area.
