About ACT Training

The company was established in 1998 by Andrew Cooksley aged 22, who’s vision, from the beginning, was to completely focus on the customer and deliver world-class training. Their mission is to make a positive difference to people’s lives by providing excellent learning programmes. They currently deliver a wide range of training to over 6,500 people a year.

Year on year ACT has had a huge impact on the Welsh economy, particularly in reducing unemployment, developing skills and helping disadvantaged young people to develop self-confidence and have a positive educational experience. In 2016 ACT united with Cardiff and Vale College which has increased opportunities for young people throughout South East Wales.

ACT are continuously looking for new ways to recognise and reward staff. A major review of staff salaries and benefits was undertaken which resulted in increases to salaries for all staff via a formal salary structure with annual incremental increases built in. The package also includes a health care plan, improved work-life balance and increased employer pension contributions. This package is still evolving with the introduction of a death in service plan. Celebrating staff success is one of ACT's strategic aims with the development of unique and innovative ways to celebrate staff successes in the pipeline.

All managers attend a five-day, ILM-accredited management development programme covering a wide range of management and leadership skills and behaviours, increasing the knowledge of managers whilst enabling them to reflect on their existing traits and practice.

To mark their 30th anniversary, ACT planned an all-expenses-paid ‘Street Food Shindig’ for all staff members and their families. The head office car park was transformed, with a giant tent decorated with festival lighting, a bar, food trucks and entertainment.

ACT introduced a formal staff volunteering policy earlier this year, which gives every member of staff the opportunity to take four paid days off work per year in order to undertake volunteering opportunities.
