About Barchester Healthcare

Barchester Healthcare is one of the UK's largest care providers supporting older people living independent lives with dignity and respect. Barchester services include residential, nursing care and expert dementia care.

Their teams of highly-qualified and dedicated staff are passionate about the independence, dignity and choice of all the residents and patients within their care. They understand that the best kind of care is one supported by a whole team approach, so their care teams focus on the individual needs of each resident or patient through a personalised care plan.

Barchester has developed a 'Celebrating Success' programme designed to reward outstanding performance. It is underpinned by their core values and purpose, 'to provide a premium caring experience delivered by our great teams to those we care for'.

Employees, residents and their relatives show their appreciation for the team members who go that extra mile to provide great care service. Alongside feeling recognised and valued by their peer group every 'Employee of the Month' winner gets a £25 gift card and a certificate.

Fundraising is a passion project for the employees at Barchester who raise funds for charity days including Macmillan Coffee Morning, Comic Relief and Wear it Pink for Breast Cancer. Throughout the organisation employees partake in cook-off's, charity runs, skydives, bake sales and even 'Talk Like A Pirate Day' to raise money and awareness to the charities that mean the most to the employees and residents at each of the homes.

What is it like to work for Barchester Healthcare

Leadership
Leadership
The leader records a monthly vlog to engage with as many colleagues as possible. The focus is what is going on in the business and sharing any important messages. They encourage people to leave suggestions and send in feedback to a dedicated 'Questions for the CEO' area on the Intranet.
Personal Growth
Personal Growth
Barchester introduced an innovative 'train line to training' based around the London Underground map. The pathways are supported by a transparent profile per role split into need to have, need to know, need to do and need to be. This shows employees exactly what they need by each dimension to get better in their existing roles, become a specialist in their role or what their aspirational role requires.
My Company
My Company
Barchester hold biannual company-wide events for each of their divisions, which are branded as 'Quality First Conferences'. All General Managers, Hospital Directors, Deputies and Home Administrators, are encouraged to attend. These are particularly effective at communicating the organisations purpose, values and ambitions.
