Employees who are regularly exposed to their products or substances, high levels of noise or experience regular manual handling operations, are provided with health surveillance. Employees are required to take a baseline medical before starting with the company, then starting at 6 weeks, 3 months and moving onto annual health surveillance. They are split into hazard groups and will receive either a full medical, respiratory and fork lift truck checks or a health questionnaire for the lowest risk groups. When employees join Bard they can be members of the Private Medical Scheme, a benefit of this scheme is that employees can self-refer and the scheme offers: 4 sessions per person, per episode, per year. The self-referral sessions cover: Physiotherapy Chiropractic Care Osteopathy Podiatry For office workers who encounter back problems, they are provided with stand up desks that are remotely controlled, they can be raised or lowered electronically, and this provides employees the comfort of being able to work at their desk either standing or sitting depending on their situation. An external ergonomic company, DorsaVi, has been engaged to work on a manual handling project with the Warehouse Team. This involves placing sensors on strategic points of the upper body of the technicians which detect muscle activation and motion range whilst conducting daily activities. The data and video footage demonstrates areas that are high risk in terms of musculoskeletal detriment, and recommends how to mitigate these. It is intended that these assessments will be conducted in other Production areas.

The Ambassador Scheme, with support from the Government backed initiative "STEMNET", help create opportunities to inspire young people in Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths (STEM). This enables young people to develop their creativity, problem solving and employability skills, widens their choices and supports the UK's future competitiveness. The Ambassadors scheme is made up of individuals from across the Cambridge campus (12 from Bard), who deliver science activities which are related to the business and are curriculum-linked. In the academic year July 2014 to July 2015, their Ambassadors worked with over 100 schools and colleges at more than 60 events and reached around 13,200 students. Each Ambassador is given 5 days away from their day jobs to engage in Ambassador duties, and in terms of personal development, the effects are enormous. The scheme aids development, engagement and confidence of Ambassadors and helps to support the culture.

Each person has the opportunity to earn a bonus reward based on their own personal contribution to the business. The bonus reward is recommended by the Departmental Manager and then through a process of calibration by HR and the Leadership Team is included in the December salary. The bonus comprises mainly of the individual's contribution to the business through achievement of personal objectives and the demonstration of our Leadership Attributes and Core Values.
