BLG run a number of informal social events, which gives staff the opportunity to interact with senior managers. In addition to Christmas and summer parties, BLG run several informal social events during the year, often with a theme. All partners and staff can attend and much of the evening is spent in informal conversation.

BLG actively encourage secondment of lawyers at all levels to other companies. This gives them greater commercial exposure and helps them to understand how their clients work. They offer placements to their overseas offices for lawyers at all levels where there is a business need.

BLG provide subsidised sports club membership to staff, paying half of the annual membership cost and providing an interest-free loan for the other half. They have a weekly on-site yoga class and run a Cycle to Work scheme. Staff sacrifice part of their salary to buy a bike for commuting purposes and run safety sessions for all cyclists.

The grading takes into account all facets of a job, from fee earning hours to contributions to the firm's development and displaying a flexible attitude.     We have 20 training contract positions available for graduates. The trainees work in four six month “seats” over a two year period in any of the firm’s fee earning departments. Although we aim to offer a position on qualification to all our trainees, it is difficult to state which departments will have vacancies over the next year, as it is dependent on the skill set of each individual trainee and the commercial/business requirements of each department.
