Bretherton's Solicitors offer a structured approach to encouraging people to develop their career in their business. Through training at Bretherton's, it would be possible for an individual to leave school, grow their career while learning at the same time through Apprenticeships and further qualifications, and eventually become a senior team member (e.g. Partner) in the firm. Examples of the development offered at Bretherton's includes Training for professional qualifications support packages, Formal induction programmes, Probation reviews lasting three months, Individual Performance Reviews and Trainee solicitor programmes. They only take applications internally for this to give their employees of the firm the opportunity to develop themselves. They generally offer 2 training contracts per annum. Examples of individuals who have been successful in developing their careers involve a solicitor who started in the firm as a part time cashier, and two Partners who started their careers at Brethertons in Training Contracts.
They offer on-site showers and bike racks to encourage individuals to exercise to and from work and on their lunch breaks. Colleagues in teams have taken to going on regular runs during their lunch breaks around the local area, the shower facilities not only encourage individuals to exercise at work but develop good team relationships at the same time. At Brethertons, employees are reminded of benefits available to them through monthly emails.

Personality Profiling within some teams to aid individuals understanding of different team members preferred working styles and communication preferences. This recently helped one team to boost their working relationships and fostered a strong working environment. Largely open plan offices. All teams are encouraged to hold at least monthly meetings across offices, where individuals can join via Go-to-meeting if required. Quarterly staff meetings are held once a quarter for each office to discuss firm performance, and provide strategic updates. These are held at lunch time, off site and lunch is provided for all attendees. ‘Carte Blanche’ cards are provided to all employees to help foster a good open communication between the CEO and others across the firm. They hold Consultation Forums and Charity Committees.
