About British Lung Foundation

The British Lung Foundation provides hope, help and a voice for people with lung conditions in the UK. To achieve this mission they work towards the following goals: to improve lives by preventing, treating and curing lung disease through funding research; to campaign to achieve clean air and healthy lungs; and to empower people affected by lung disease through the best support, information and services.

Staff helped to shape the organisation’s core values and the senior management team work to embed these principles from the very beginning. Candidates follow a values-based interview process and these areas are built into the appraisal process.

Employees who are not part of the fundraising team are all eligible for the organisation’s fundraiser of the month awards, recognising those who go above and beyond with activities to raise money for the charity. Regular cross-organisational working groups are held for colleagues to share their ideas for the charity.

What is it like to work for British Lung Foundation

Employees benefit from wellbeing schemes such as early finishes on a Friday, lunchtime yoga sessions and head massages. Workers also receive 15-minute health checks to cover core health conditions and each employee is issued with their own lifestyle report.

A weekly engagement survey is issued to staff to gauge happiness, progress and frustrations, followed up by a more detailed poll every two months. The results are reviewed at staff meetings and an annual staff conference brings the full workforce together.

Giving Something Back
The organisation run 230 Breathe Easy support groups for those living with a lung condition in the UK, which are staffed by volunteers. Employees attend at least one of these groups per year to gain a better understanding of the people they support, as well as informing the attendees about their work.
