About Car Benefit Solutions Limited

Car Benefit Solutions Limited (CBS) was established in 2002 with a team of just 5, setting out to provide tax efficient car schemes to corporate clients. They began operations in a small unit in Bury, yet within a few years were partner of choice to some of the UK's biggest blue chip clients.

Then in 2007 a premium manufacturer brand approached CBS looking for a solution, their brief was simple: “We want to make our cars affordable for our network, so employees working in franchise dealerships become product experts and ambassadors for our brand.” The first manufacturer staff car scheme facilitated by CBS was born.

Employees can enjoy a discounted car as a benefit of their employment, dealers gained a boost to staff retention and incremental sales, whilst the manufacturer had the brand ambassadors they sought on the UK's roads. Today they provide a solution for every eligible employee whether they are entitled to a company car or not. They operate schemes for 25 manufacturers at over 2000 dealerships; delivering 30,000 annual registrations. They've outgrown their humble beginnings and have big plans to continue their steep growth.

Their HQ is now at 'The Barracks' in Bury and their army of supporters is expanding but their mission remains steadfast in their culture. 'To create and deliver the most intelligent and value adding, yet easy to enjoy, Employee Car Ownership Schemes.' They will achieve this through their desire to develop and share their knowledge and expertise and through their willingness to adapt and evolve to meet their customer's needs.

What is it like to work for Car Benefit Solutions Limited

The Managing Director is an ever present and committed Director and is based in the office, working from there most days adopting an open door policy for employees to come and see them at any time, which people feel they can and regularly do. The Managing Director conducts a week one induction with all new starters, attends team meetings and is present throughout the office space. The Managing Director also conducts regular staff briefings with the Head of People, Culture and Values and attends all company wide social events. To mark key events and milestones for the business they also issue communications via the company newsletter thanking staff for their commitment and hard work that enables the business to achieve its objectives. Every month they also host a breakfast or lunch with the Management Board and Directors, where employees are invited to attend to meet the Directors in an informal setting and interact in an open forum. They are fully supportive of all employees and sends regular individual and team emails, praising hard work and dedication. They are accessible to all and are hugely respected by everyone in the business for their leadership, interaction and support of everyone as individuals.
Car Benefit Solutions believe that wellbeing covers several elements and that it is essential to create a supportive environment to foster excellent health and wellbeing throughout their workforce. The elements they consider are important are: - Working environment - Employee development - Work-life balance - Working Relationships -Values - Organisational leadership - Physical health - Mental health. They have created a wellbeing strategy and plan and have planned a week long launch event to engage all their people. The activities planned encompass emotional, financial and physical wellbeing and include exercise classes, workshops, healthy food and health screening. Fruit at work continues to be popular and enjoyed by everyone and they have started offering more healthy options including home made soup in the staff coffee shop. They strongly believe work life balance is essential and whilst each department has specific responsibilities their flexible working policy has been well received to enable everyone in the business to take advantage of at least one of these elements of flexible working, be it working from home, core hours or flexitime. They have also arranged a work life balance workshop to support people further in this.

They have communicated and implemented a CSR policy and plan covering the following: - Using technology to lessen the need for travel including through the use of video conferencing and conference calls - Conducting research into how CBS can improve current practices around the ethical disposal of waste, recycling where possible - Implementing efficient printing practices and reducing the use of paper where possible through technology Staff will all be encouraged to get involved in these areas. They already encourage staff to use technology for smarter meetings and they implemented Microsoft Teams which has made this more possible and all field based or home working staff use this. They encourage car sharing or pubic transport where possible to reduce emissions through driving and focus on the employment of local people to further reduce their carbon footprint. They have been educating their people to use digital methods and if not, to use less paper and print on double sided to reduce this and they are currently working on a project to source recycling for their consumables, which the staff are all bought in to as demonstrated in their own survey and staff briefings. They also donate any surplus food stock from their employee coffee shop to a local charity to reduce food waste and have donated old clothing to Bury Hospice to reduce clothing waste.
