About Cardiff University Students' Union

Cardiff University Students' Union are a student-led, independent part of the university that represent students. The union provides advice, training, skills development, volunteering opportunities, employment and other services to students that promote inclusion and friendship.

Cardiff University Students’ Union are also the recognised voice of students at Cardiff University, joining students in campaigning about the issues important to them.

Their core principles include: student leadership, inclusion, partnership and diversity. To encourage staff to have some fun at a busy time of year, and to help talk around the need and benefits of achieving their targets; the union set the challenge to staff that the Chief Executive Daniel Palmer would wear a fancy dress costume of their choosing if targets were achieved.

Heads of Departments report on their strategic progress quarterly to Board. Managers undergo an annual appraisal, and one-to-ones are held every month in order to review progress and assess financial performance. Internal and external coaching is also available to managers, as well as ongoing training.

They hold a weekly meeting to provide feedback and flow information across the whole company. This meeting is also used as a opportunity to deliver presentations and undertake collaborative activity to help develop new strategies and tackle issues which may arise.
