About The Chartered Institute of Payroll Professionals

The Chartered Institute of Payroll Professionals (CIPP) is a membership organisation, providing training and qualifications in payroll and pensions.

There are in excess of 10,000 individuals benefiting from the support that the CIPP provides through membership and other services.

In addition to the support offered to members, the CIPP has a subsidiary education arm, IPP Education Ltd, which provides qualifications, training courses and events to individuals and organisations within the industry.

The CIPP are a flexible employer and employees have the ability to work around their family commitments, allowing a good work-life balance, which is essential to mental wellbeing. Areas such as annual leave, maternity / paternity, sickness, free car parking, healthcare, are amongst the many benefits of working for the CIPP. In addition to the CIPP offering training needs to support their role, they also support training and education in other areas, if requested.

The CEO encourages employee engagement and personally likes to thank employees for choosing the CIPP to work for. They meet with all new employees where they introduce themselves to each other informally over lunch, this has been very popular and the feedback from new starters has been positive. The CEO is passionate that employees are paid a fair wage and the CIPP voluntarily committed to pay employees the real living wage.

What is it like to work for The Chartered Institute of Payroll Professionals

The CEO has introduced numerous improvements for employees, including changing the ruling around new starters being able to enrol immediately in the private health insurance and cash plan schemes, as well as being able to purchase / sell annual leave up to 5 days from the day they start with the Company, whereas previously they have had to complete their 6-month probation before the company would offer these benefits.

CIPP are now in the process of developing the 'CIPP Academy'. This is a succession planning tool to enable employees to join the scheme where their line managers feel they need further development. The CIPP wish to nurture and grow their employees to equip them with the knowledge and training to step into a role comfortably, when the opportunity arises.

Over the last 12 months CIPP have introduced a forum of employees called Employee Voice, which enables all colleagues to feed their suggestions into the group for discussion. These then get referred to the Senior Management Team for further discussion or implementation. As a consequence of a suggestion from Employee Voice, CIPP have introduced a recreational area containing games, magazines, table football and comfortable seating for employees to engage with each other and relax.
