Mission: To provide children in our care with a ‘Sound Foundation for Life’. Vision: To achieve 100% employee ownership and thus remain in the hands of the people who make it successful.
A WINDFALL IS on the way for all 1,615 staff at Childbase Partnership this year. Everyone will get a tax-free corporate dividend as the childcare provider, which runs 44 nurseries in the southeast, completes its transformation from a private company to a fully employee-owned trust.
Chief executive Mike Thompson founded the business in 1989 in Newport Pagnell, Buckinghamshire, and started the process of employee ownership in 2000 because he strongly believes this is the best way to ensure its future success.
Thompson is also passionate about the importance of personal development. He undertook an NVQ in childcare himself in order to better understand the challenges of working with children and makes sure that all employees have training specific to their roles.
It means they aren’t bored with what they do (an 80% positive score, ranked seventh). They also consider their managers to be excellent role models (78%, ninth), who help them to fulfil their potential (76%).
