It is also the world's leading provider of cosmetic contact lenses to change eye colour and offers the widest variety — 62 combinations in all — of any contact lens manufacturer. Its products are available in more than 70 countries.
Teamwork is integral to Ciba Vision's values. The company is keen to arrange social events to build strong relationships. This strategy appears to be working, according to our survey, with 86% of staff saying that people go out of their way to help them (the 12th-highest score of any SME), 84% saying that they are confident in the abilities of team-mates and 85% reporting their team is fun to work with.
A generous social budget of more than £130,000 covered events last year such as product launches and annual parties for the 143 employees. The company also promotes fun at work, such as organising chocolate fountains and on-site massages for staff.
In the past year, Ciba Vision has spent almost £175,000 on training, and employees have appraisals twice a year. The staff see communication as strong, with the firm's management team actively ensuring they are both visible and approachable. Our survey shows that the workforce appreciates these efforts: more than 85% feel supported when they need to learn new skills — a score bettered by just five SMEs — and 81% believe they can make a difference within the organisation. A similar number, 83%, say that their managers talk openly and honestly with them, and 81% are confident in the leadership of senior management.
