All members of the Leadership Development Programme are assigned a member of the Senior Management Team as a coach and mentor, including the CEO. As part of their programme, they have monthly meetings with their mentor to help them with their plan, but also their own role and skills. All participants commented that they found it useful and inspirational. Citation is a people service business and knowing that Managers are only as good as their teams, the company's also knows that the direction of any team starts at the top to ensure they are high performing and have Leaders they can rely on.

Creating winning teams is key to Citation’s success strategy and it remains a focus of theirs through team building initiatives and having shared team goals. Key to their team build strategy is to ensure that people collaborate and work effectively. To facilitate Citation have created opportunities for people who would not normally work together to bond, for example through the Citation Olympic Games, where each team was made up of individuals from different teams and staff competed together against other countries to win medals. Team building is also achieved through the company’s Leadership Development Programme, which ensures they took potential from each business area and got them to work together throughout the duration of the programme. With over half of colleagues in a field based role, Citation understands that real time communication and interaction is vital to the success of the business. All colleagues have access to a range of communication tools to allow them to integrate and communicate with the wider business, including Skype for Business for video calls, team meetings and Salesforce Chatter and also Yammer to work on cross departmental projects.

Citation holds an award ceremony at the annual Citation party where colleagues can vote for their peers. There are a total of 12 awards in 3 categories: ‘Above and Beyond’, ‘Service Star’ and ‘Colleague of the Year’. Employees nominated are recognised for their efforts to live Citation's core values. Last year over half of the colleagues received at least one nomination, which is testament to what a great team Citation have. For those who receive the most nominations, gifts are personalised to each recipient and range in value from £250 to £1500 for the star award. Winners also receive an award and a letter from the CEO, outlining all of the nominations they received. In addition, the company have an online recognition badge scheme, whereby colleagues can send recognition to their peers when they have helped out or acted in line with values. In the last 12 months, over 1500 badges have been awarded across the business and are visible on a leader board. The CEO will read out the best examples of badges received that month at the company monthly business brief, which includes colleague and client feedback.
