About Derbyshire County Council

What is it like to work for Derbyshire County Council

Wellbeing

Opportunities are provided for flexible working, including the flexible working hours scheme, home working, term-time working and compressed working weeks. The flexible working hours scheme has been revised since April 2010 to remove core hours, allow working between 7am and 7pm and allow up to 2 days flexi leave per 4 week period. As part of its accommodation project to rationalise the number of administrative buildings, the Council is introducing new ways of working where roles are being categorised as fixed office, flexible, mobile, field, fixed home or no work station required to allow much more flexible working.

The Council have a corporate office recycling scheme to collect and recycle paper, cardboard, glass bottles and jars, plastics bottles, cans. They also use old road planings to re-lay in highway subsurface under roads to be resurfaced or use in other applications such as pathway surfaces. They are also developing a waste matrix to identify all waste produced by the county council, the amounts, whether or not it is recycled and eventually how much greenhouse gas it produces if not recycled. They also recycle their used computer consumables as well as corporate mobile phones and computing equipment where possible.
