My Manager
My Manager
Ellisons Managers coaching and mentoring is done through their Line Manager and the HR Director. The management Charter standard is used for them to assess themselves against as part of their ongoing development. There are also annual appraisals, monthly one to one’s with Line Managers and assessments against personal and financial targets for their team. The Management team charter acts as a standard to achieve IIP accreditation. Employee engagement and health and welfare are Board agenda items. There is an open door policy and Managers will see anyone who asks. Ellisons leader also visits all sites regularly, walks through the departments every week to talk to people and is both available and supportive.

As a company Ellisons encourage employees to take a lunchtime walk. The organisation has healthy options in the snack machines and run annual programmes for fitness and weight loss, which are always voluntary. They also offer access to an Employee Assistance Programme. All Managers have completed the Mental Health First Aid course to give better understanding of their own stresses and their teams, with this course also covering the Stress Bucket concept. This has helped get two people get back to work in 2016 who Ellisons may have otherwise lost through mental health problems.

Ellisons hold companywide coffee mornings to raise funds for their chosen charity. People often dress up and the last one was Halloween, which involved bake cakes, making soup and having hot chocolate for sale. Suppliers sent raffle prizes and the organisation had a holiday day as a prize. All this gives a real buzz about the place, with all departments and sites joining in. Ellisons put the results on the company intranet along with some photos. Lots of fun and laughs are had by all and the event acted as a real feel good factor. It also created the chance for people to meet and mingle and Ellisons raised over £500 at the last one in October for Zoe's Place.
