My Manager
Leadership and Management Development. At the end of 2014/15 the organisation launched their new Leadership Development Programme in conjunction with Innovation Central their new Leadership Development provider. Two development centres were delivered by the period end and this has continued into 2015/16. The development centres were designed to provide challenging business simulation exercises that are aligned to their future way of working. Feedback from this and the 360 degree exercise has now been provided to the participants and individual development plans are being actioned. The next phase of the development activity is included within the 2015/16 L & D Plan. A number of management development courses were developed and delivered by their Learning and Development Officer thereby saving on external trainer/consultant fees. These included Managing Change to support the restructure process and an Introduction to Management which was trialled on their colleagues and will be delivered group-wide in 2015/16. Team Development activity was also facilitated at a number of Team Away Days. To support i-SUPP and i-MAP reviews they delivered a number of half day skills based training sessions for line managers. This has been delivered to managers a number of which attended the training as a useful refresher. Again, this training is now being provided using their internal trainer resource thereby achieving a substantial saving on external L & D corporate budget expenditure.

emh group promotes its purpose, vision and values to employees via their Project Platinum organisational development programme. Project Platinum has been branded to both promote their platinum 70th anniversary in 2016 and to encourage staff to strive for excellence. A visual representation has been issued to all staff, setting out their vision statement, values and the key measures of success , including benchmarking against others. Regular briefings are provided through their 6 weekly team briefings, their Chief Executive’s blog, and via their intranet i-browse. 20% of staff have participated in independently hosted workshops to develop a behavioural framework for their values. A self/line manager assessment against these behaviours is compared in annual appraisals, prompting discussion of areas of strength and behaviours requiring improvement. Progress is plotted over 12 months to check that values are meaningful and both individual and corporate direction of travel in demonstrating behaviours in the work place. Personal targets documented in appraisals are related directly to the organisation’s business objectives in order to promote an understanding amongst all staff of how they contribute to the success of the organisation. Posters and desk top calendars containing quotations from their staff expressing what their values mean to them in practice can be found throughout their offices. Their values trip off the tongue of many staff members based on the acronym I DO ACE – as their ICT home screen, they are the first and last thing employees see each day.
