A company responsible for cleaning up radioactive waste is not one to be taken lightly, but it is just one of many strings to ESI's bow. The environmental consultancy provides software and training solutions for soil and groundwater problems and, judging by staff opinion, it works; they believe they can make a valuable contribution to its success and give an 81% positive score in our survey to prove it. Based in Shrewsbury, the workforce is split into 10 teams; the capability team, for example, looks after training. While staff say their team is fun to work with (83%), they are equally confident in team-mates' abilities (83%). Work/life balance receives attention at ESI. The casual dress policy adds to the relaxed feeling and flexible working hours are available to all staff. The social team has a generous budget at its disposal to arrange events. These practices build loyalty and most employees would be reluctant to leave tomorrow if they had another job (81%).
Awards are generally frowned upon for fear of dissatisfied staff, but book tokens are given out at monthly meetings for contributions to health and safety. It would seem prizes are indeed unnecessary as staff agree that people at ESI do not use intimidation to get what they want (83%).
