About Gateshead College

What is it like to work for Gateshead College

Leadership
Leadership
Judith Doyle, the CEO came into post in August. She was a student at the College and had worked there as a teacher and a senior manager - she has an unrivalled passion for the business. She has spoken with all staff collectively clearly setting the vision for the college and her expectations. Her opening presentation to staff was not just about the business but also about her, her daughter and family and what she likes doing out of work. She has committed to get out across all campuses and departments and has started doing so with the aim of removing barriers that stop people getting on with the job. She is tireless in reminding people as to why they are here and where the focus should be providing clarity and direction. Judith is passionate, determined, and challenging.

They recently launched their performance management framework "Aspire". This allows all staff to take part in an appraisal process and create a personal development plan. Aspire will prove to be particulaly effective in engaging employees as the framework allows their staff to clearly see how they can contribute to the vision and top ten priorities of the College through a series of personal objectives. Aspire also enables managers to identifiy staff development area's and untapped potential within their teams.

They give their colleagues extra holidays over the Christmas period in addition to their allocation with plenty of prior notice so they have more time to spend with their families, this is a thank you for their hard work over what is a particularly busy time for their business from September - October. They have done this for the last 4 years. Feedback has shown them that this is very much appreciated.
