About Howdens

Howdens are a trade only business that services the needs of over 400,000 local small builders from over 700 UK locations nationwide. The focus of the entire business is on meeting the needs of the depots and in turn their customers.

In the widest sense, people depend on Howdens in all manner of ways. As they make and sell kitchens, they feel that they have a particular responsibility in an area which is central to daily life. They ensure that they never let other people down, whether colleagues, customers, charities or residents in local communities.

Howdens core principles today are the same on which the business was founded in the mid 1990's, before they had a name, product, buildings or employees. Since then, they have grown the business to one employing nearly 10,000 people. This sense of ownership and heritage is a winning formula, one which everyone can connect to and take pride in.

The wellbeing of their people is paramount and they recognise that in their industry, some employees can be exposed to physical risks. They feel that it is their responsibility to help their employees to safeguard themselves against these.

Their initiatives 'Safe to Trade' and 'Safe to Supply' emphasise that their culture is committed to safety and encourage all employees to feel empowered to take responsibility for themselves and their team.
