About Hydrock

Bristol-based multi-disciplinary engineering design consultancy, Hydrock, was founded in 1995 and employs more than 400 people UK-wide.

Hydrock has 16 offices, including in London, Manchester, Birmingham and Cardiff.

Led by Founder and CEO, Dr Brian McConnell, Hydrock prides itself on its relaxed and supportive management style. The principle is to focus on the wellbeing and motivation of the employees, believing that creating the right environment will encourage a dynamic and entrepreneurial approach that leads to great results for clients.

The firm has launched a health and wellbeing strategy that focuses on physical, emotional, financial and social wellbeing, with Health and Wellbeing Champions for each office. It also offers staff a £200 annual healthy living bonus which has been used for activities as varied as snow-boarding lessons and the purchase of a rowing machine.

Hydrock has also introduced a two-day induction programme, hosted off-site with team activities, a company overview from Brian McConnell and a dinner that is attended by other employees, to help integrate new employees into the business and the company’s culture.

What is it like to work for Hydrock

The Curry Tour sees Chief Executive Officer Brian McConnell visit every office to update staff on the company’s performance each year. He talks informally with staff over dinner, discussing future plans and direction, while getting to know everyone in the business.
