About iQ Student Accommodation

iQ Student Accommodation own and manage properties across the UK, providing accommodation to students in locations ranging from London to Glasgow.

Recently acquired by Blackstones, iQ was founded in 2007 and have grown to be a leading student accommodation provider.

iQ Student Accommodation launched its values in 2017, and since then have been consistently embedding them throughout the company. The values which all employees work towards are: Be the Team, Be the Leader, Be the Learner, Be the Business, Be the Future, Be the Customer, Be the Best.

iQ have a reward and recognition culture where employees can recognise the works of their colleagues sharing e-cards via the MyiQRewards benefits platform. Not only this, iQ offers instant recognition through their FantastiQ awards and the quarterly WOW awards whereby team members can nominate peers for recognition of going above and beyond, and ways that they are working towards any of their key values. Monetary prizes are given to winners, with annual award winners gifted additional annual leave.

iQ have continued with online training during the pandemic. For those who are working at home, they have run some online short webinars to help stay in contact as well as to develop. Some of the maintenance technicians, who were in the training programme were at the stages of exams so some managers were put through training so they could act as an exam moderator for them.

iQ are now using Microsoft Teams on a regular basis. The support teams have ‘Thirsty Thursdays’ twice a month and will regularly have coffee catch ups via Teams during the day.  At the beginning of the pandemic, the COO arranged a catch up with teams to discuss how they are finding working from home and offering support. iQ have a weekly manager’s bulletin and monthly iQ World newsletter which is sent to all iQers, this helps to keep everyone updated and is a one stop shop for action points.

iQ ran a Bingo where colleagues had to donate to take part, with the winner taking away a tablet and an extra day’s annual leave. iQ raised over £600 for the NHS from this initiative. Many of iQ’s residents left their homes early because of the pandemic, leaving a lot of their belongings behind. At every site, a British Heart Foundation box was provided to allow them to leave any of their goods for donation. iQ have provided goods worth over £136,000 so far.
