The company are strong advocates of 360 degree feedback, they regularly engage a variety of coaches to deliver feedback and coach their employees in how to develop their own personal working styles to be as effective as they can. The company have found that matching the coach to the individual is an incredibly effective way of ensuring that the company continue to value the diversity of their workforce. Practically, they support continuous development with higher education, professional qualifications and in-house training. The company pay professional subscriptions on behalf of their employees irrespective of the profession to ensure that they can develop in the areas that interest and motivate them. Unique to John Rowan and Partners is the Grade Marking system, which means that promotion is based on evidence, not availability. In the annual Grade Marking process employees are promoted to the next grade as soon as they demonstrate that they are working at that level. People make the organisation, not the other way round. The company build into their business plans significant time for Development Activities to ensure that no-one is excluded from this continuous learning culture. They also provide specific support for those wishing to gain technical qualifications with the recognised professional body that supports their industry, with innovative learning sessions run by their leaders, individual coaching on presentation skills, and to top it all off, career coaching, and a long lunch with the Managing Partner on gaining the qualification, to celebrate and consider next steps.
Gym Subsidy – all employees enjoy the benefit of a monthly sports subsidy, for participation in any sort of activity. It encourages employees to use the gym, garden in their allotment, play golf, try a zumba or combat class and sends a clear signal of the high value the organisation places on health and wellbeing. In June the company  ran a Wellbeing Day, with a stress workshop, massages, table tennis tournament, a smoothie bike, healthy snacks and help and advice from specialists.
