About Leeds Federated Housing Association

Leeds Federated Housing Association provide homes for affordable and social rent across the Leeds City region, homes for sale through shared ownership and supports customers through a variety of services including debt advice.

Through its vision of ‘building futures together’, the organisation aims to enable the maximum number of people to access and live sustainably in good value, affordable housing.

Members of staff at Leeds Federated’s seven sites were involved in putting together the organisation’s core principles. These include customer focus, communication, teamwork, leadership and business sense.

All employees are supported through flexible working opportunities to accommodate their personal circumstances, while their wellbeing is supported through trying different approaches to mindfulness in order to benefit their professional and personal lives.

Chief Executive Matthew Walker believes in promoting communication across the organisation, and initiated a communications group along with an open-door policy to encourage staff to speak to him whenever they would like to.

Leadership
Leadership
The organisation has moved from appraisals to ‘achievement conversations’. There’s an Ideas Lab on the blog site to encourage innovation, and board briefings to share information about decisions and milestones with staff. The senior team embraced the recent Summer Challenge, which included the Tour de Yorkshire bike ride and Three Peaks Challenge.
My Manager
My Manager
The leadership team use MBTI and Lencioni's 5 Behaviours of a Cohesive Team. Managers work with Oasis School for Human Relations to develop leadership skills and approaches, while managers are encouraged to join learning through partner organisations such as HDN, WISH and NHC.
Wellbeing
Wellbeing
Staff are subscribed to the Health Shield cash plan, offering health and wellbeing initiatives alongside an employee assistance programme. The Summer Challenge is an in-house programme that looks at whole-person wellbeing, including mindfulness and physical challenges.
