About Leeds Federated Housing Association

Leeds Federated Housing Association provide homes for affordable and social rent across the Leeds City region, homes for sale through shared ownership and supports customers through a variety of services including debt advice.

Through its vision of ‘building futures together’, the organisation aims to enable the maximum number of people to access and live sustainably in good value, affordable housing.

Members of staff at Leeds Federated’s seven sites were involved in putting together the organisation’s core principles. These include customer focus, communication, teamwork, leadership and business sense.

All employees are supported through flexible working opportunities to accommodate their personal circumstances, while their wellbeing is supported through trying different approaches to mindfulness in order to benefit their professional and personal lives.

Chief Executive Matthew Walker believes in promoting communication across the organisation, and initiated a communications group along with an open-door policy to encourage staff to speak to him whenever they would like to.

What is it like to work for Leeds Federated Housing Association

Members of the senior management team actively encourage staff to ask questions about the work of the organisation through the ideas lab and staff quarterly meetings. In addition, managers worked with staff teams to introduce the Zenith Strengths and behaviours standards to incorporate the organisation’s values.

All managers are invited to attend Learn@lunch sessions on management and HR policies. What’s more, managers are encouraged to join relevant networks to support development, such as WISH (Women In Social Housing).
Shared parental leave is offered to all members of staff, and the employee is given control as to what level of contact they would like with the business during their time off. This has included continuing to source development opportunities for an individual who wanted to study while on maternity leave.
