Based on family leadership, the company is headquartered in Bethesda, Maryland.

In 1927, J. Willard Marriott opened a root-beer stand that evolved into the Hot Shoppes restaurant chain. For the next 58 years, he continued to build the Marriott brand using the ethos that’s still embedded in the company today.

Today, the company operates and franchises hotels and licenses vacation-ownership resorts under 30 brands. Marriott Hotels International employs more than 500,000 people at its properties and corporate offices.

These days, Bill Marriott is the Executive Chairman and Arne Sorensen is President and Chief Executive Officer. Amy C. McPherson is President and Managing Director of the European arm.
