PLAYING A VITAL role aiding the country's police forces, the National Policing Improvement Agency makes sure its own workforce has the support it needs. Its 1,758 staff believe the agency makes a difference to the world (a 71% positive score ranking it 13th among its medium-sized counterparts). They also strongly believe in providing a great service (94%).
The community is at the heart of the organisation's work, and giving something back goes beyond its day-to-day duties. Employees can take up to five fully paid days every year to volunteer for a good cause and their efforts are not driven by a desire for good publicity (56%, a top 10 score).
Profit and budget concerns aren't driving the agency, which earns a top 20 score of 59% on this point. Protecting the planet as well as people, it has opted for video conferencing to reduce the need to travel to meetings, plus low-emission pool cars and recycling across most of its 12 sites.
Dealing with issues as critical as national security might be demanding, but staff aren't under too much pressure to concentrate (67%, a top 10 result), their health doesn't suffer because of work (70%) and they haven't felt stressed because of the job in the past year (67%). A top 20 score of 64% shows people are also happy with the balance between work and home.
