IT ISN'T ONLY the students who learn at Newham College of Further Education — teachers and support staff say the job is good for their personal growth, too, which earns the college a top 35 ranking position among all 75 public sector organisations in this list. The college gives employees 35 hours of training a year, at a cost of about £600 each. Subjects range from office skills and time management to challenging behaviour and diversity.
The 553-strong workforce says training is of great benefit (66%, ranking sixth among mid-sized bodies). They only have to look to the senior management team for examples of career progression, with 10 people having worked their way up from other positions. Staff say the experience they gain from their job is valuable (73%).
A top score of 79% shows that staff at the east London college believe they can make a difference in the organisation, and they say they can make a valuable contribution to its success, giving a top five score of 80%.
