About Nottinghamshire YMCA

Since their inception in 1871, Nottinghamshire YMCA have created a series of values to develop mind, body and spirit for members of the community. The organisation belongs to a worldwide Christian Ecumenical system that welcomes individuals of all faiths to take part in its activities.

The charity’s programmes cover health and fitness, childcare, day camps, sports, children’s residential care, community centres, family and adventure activities. Their future aim is to expand further in order to create a more connected service for more communities.

Through its core principles of honesty, caring, respect and responsibility, Nottinghamshire YMCA believe in creating a positive working environment for all members of staff.

Chief Executive Officer Will Wakefield left the edge of the Kalahari Desert in Southern Africa with only £50 and four O-levels before starting a career in hotel management. Following a Christian calling, Will found himself working at a north London YMCA hostel during the 1981 Tottenham Riots.

He joined the YMCA in Nottingham as Chief Executive in 1995, taking turnover from £400,000 to £6.1 million today.
